Life Drawing: Mass & Forceful Form

June 13, 2018

In chapter 2 of the 'force' book I am reading the author talks about the concept of a turning edge - the lines you see on a 2d surface to make it look 3d, here are some of my notes on the subject:

I really like the idea of describing the form and finding the natural centre of the a form - this can really help to make it more 3-dimensional.

The author looks more in depth on this topic in relation to the skull:

EXERCISES AND TIPS

1. Practice placing a line on the surface of forms. Try sculpting a skull or a wrinkled fabric.

2. Learn the one- to four-point perspective, further defined in FORCE: Dynamic Life Drawing, 10th Anniversary Edition (2017).

3. Learn to see the turning edge and the natural centres.

4. Combine the ideas in numbers 1 through 3. 5. Draw numerous cubes without any extension lines.
