Expressionism: Part 4: Artist to look up: Lucien Freud

August 17, 2018

When I was younger I studied art at school and we had to pick an artist and do a 'deep dive' to find out more about that artist. I chose Lucien Freud.

WIKI: Lucian Michael Freud was a British painter and draftsman and is known as one of the foremost 20th-century portraitists. He was born in Berlin, the son of Jewish architect Ernst L. Freud and the grandson of Sigmund Freud. His family moved to Britain in 1933 to escape the rise of Nazism. From 1942-43 he attended Goldsmiths College, London. He enlisted in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.

The painting that inspired me was 'Interior at Paddington' - I had never seen anything like it before. The weird colour pallette, the strange physiognomy, just its overall weirdness!
